Monetary Union for East Africa underway.
The PESA which will be EAC currency is being championed by Yoweri Museveni.
"The General gave us a roadmap of Monetary Union of a single EAC currency, The PESA , which will be superior to the Euro, USA dollar and to the Sterling pound" - Hon. David Ole Sankok, Member of EA Legislative Assembly.

In 1963, a federal government for the East Africa Community was supposed to be in place. Unfortunately, it was never successful due to the then political, social and economic challenges and later differences of ideologies from the founding presidents of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Over the years bringing together the East African Community has been on various attempts including the forming up of East African Legislative Assembly.

Today the assembly which draws representation from the nations of DRC,Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia and South Sudan sits in Tanzania's Arusha city.
It seems the dream of the EAC forefathers is about to be realized as a union of a single currency for the nations is on top gear discussion.

Hon. David Ole Sankok, a vibrant member of the assembly from Kenya, with other leaders of the East African Assembly are currently in Uganda holding talks with Uganda's head of state Yoweri Museveni, over Pan- Africanism.

The ideology is geared towards bringing African Nations together for stronger economic and political power amongst other top agendas.
Hon. Sankok has revealed of their talks with Museveni saying, " The General gave us a roadmap of Monetary Union of a single EAC currency, The PESA , which will be superior to the Euro, USA dollar and to the Sterling pound"
However this comes admist several setbacks and economic challenges that face most of EAC countries.
